sight seeing

Waalwijk might be a small town, but it is home to some of the best sights in The Netherlands! Here are some suggestions for students and visitors of SLEM:

Fabriek NL

Fabriek NL is the hidden gem of Waalwijk. They are based in the former Van Haren shoe factory and sell an enormous collection of interior design classics of the highest possible quality. SLEM students can go there by bicycle; it is directly across the street from Greve factory, where we make our prototypes. There is an abundance of inspiration at Fabriek NL! Wear a jacket, because the big furniture hall can be quite chilly, and bring a sketch book and camera.

Textile Museum

About half an hour by bus you will find the Textile Museum, in Tilburg, a buzzing university town. This museum is unique in its approach and an example for - and partner of - SLEM. It has a state-of-the-art Textile Lab with both high-tech and antique machines where students and professionals can develop (experimental) textiles, assisted by the highly experienced museum staff.

If you want to experience something completely different, all you have to do is go to Kaatsheuvel, the neighbouring village, where you find fairy tale theme park Efteling, the oldest theme park in The Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe. It attracts more than 4 million visitors per year, especially because of the amazing design.

Loonse en Drunense Duinen

Waalwijk is situated in a very green area. In fact, it is bordering the most beautiful national park of The Netherlands: Loonse en Drunense Duinen. This magical area of sand dunes is a great place to relax, recharge and get creative ideas...
