ZOUTZAND – Schouwen-Duiveland - 2015
The Bewaerschole asked Bruno Doedens/SLeM to participate in the project ‘Balanceren tussen Zoet en Zout’ at Schouwen–Duiveland, Zeeland, 2015.

In commission of the Dutch waterworks Department a 500,000 cubic meters of sand is being replenished at the beach of Brouwersdam. The purpose is to expand the beach as an adaptation measure to the rising sea level and to increase the possibilities for beach recreation. The objective of SLeM is to create an imaginative project to make the implementation process of sand replenishment experienceable for a broad public. The process will take ten weeks (24/7). Parallel and in close corporation with the contractor and stakeholders, the project ‘ZOUTZAND’ will be developed. The name of the project ‘ZOUTZAND’ (salt sand) will be written in the sand of the beach. The unexploited blanc sand will get a new meaning. After a view months, the words will possibly be faded by the wind and maybe also by the tide. What remains is a memory of an only temporary landscape of words.

The implementation of the creation of new land and the writing in the sand will be filmed. The result is a poetic documentary, which will tell the story of the sand replenishment to a broad public. See here the first  experiment
