Oog van Ruigoord - Amsterdam - 2013

The project ‘Oog van Ruigoord’ (Eye of Ruigoord) is a land art sculpture for the forty-year jubilee anniversary of Ruigoord, western port of Amsterdam, 2013.

The EYE is a metaphor for seeing the world with a different perspective, by accessing the environment with greater attention for eccentric ideals and social and cultural values. Besides, the land art sculpture symbolizes Ruigoord as an oasis of peace in the hectic daily living.

Throughout the year, exposed to the changing seasons, the approximately one hundred and fifty to three hundred meter big sculpture transformed delicately in colour. During full moon, the sculpture functioned as a stage for cultural activities propagating the unique story of Ruigoord. These expressions were rewarded with a collective ‘Giant Wink’ during the ‘Landjuwel festival’ in which hundreds of people participated. The full-moon-cultural activities in the ‘EYE’ have formed the basis for the film ‘Het Oog van Ruigoord’.

These were the following full-moon days until the anniversary during the Landjuwel 2013:

January 27 (05:40 am) – Aquarius

February 25 (21:28 pm) – Pisces

March 27 (10:30 am) – Aries

April 25 (21:59 pm) – Taurus

May 25 (6:27 am) – Gemini
June 23 (13:33 pm) – Cancer

July 22 (20:16 pm) - Cancer

‘Oog van Ruigoord’ was the prelude of the project ‘Moon.events’: cultural activities along the IJ at full moon.

The project is realized in close coorporation with Ruigoord and harbour companies Markus and KWS.
